Richard Martin “Doc” Weller

U.S. Army Veteran Was Sports Enthusiast And Retired From
DuPont

Richard Martin “Doc” Weller, 76, died on Monday, January 28,
2019, at his home in Hixson.

A veteran of the United States Army and sports enthusiast, Doc
was an avid and well-decorated softball and basketball player who
was inducted into the Berry School Academy Sports Hall of Fame
and was a Korean All-Battalion Badminton Champion and was an
avid marathon runner.

He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Catholic Church and was known as the “Iron Man” of DuPont,
where he retired after 40+ years of service.  Doc never met a
person he would not help to make a better person.

The son of the late Edward and Catherine Cotter Weller, Doc was
also preceded in death by his wife, Janice Marie Carmichael
Weller; siblings, Edward Weller and Rose Mary Schoolfield.

Survivors include sons, Michael (Ashley) Weller and Todd (Amy)
Weller; brother, Pat (Gail) Weller; sister, Catherine (Bill) Carlton;
grandchildren, Reed Weller, Anna Goodrich, and Brannon
Whitmire.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, at
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Jim Vick
presiding. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4–7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31,
at Hamilton Funeral Home.
